    Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass!

Spend this March break outside with the Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass!

Register your child for the Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass and show them how much fun skiing and snowboarding can be, for FREE!

March break is just around the corner and it's a much-needed break during what's started off as a very snowy ski season.  Trying to figure out what to do with the family this March break? Why not make the most of this vacation, and spend it together as a family at some of Canada's favourite ski areas?

Skiing and snowboarding are two of Canada's most exciting winter sports and they are exhilarating ways to spend time together as a family during the winter months.  Kids never tried it before? No worries! That's where the Canadian Ski Council comes in. They've created the Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass program specifically to make it easy and affordable for parents to get their kids skiing or snowboarding.

SnowPass Advantage: "Introducing children to skiing and snowboarding at an early age gives them lifetime access to these healthy winter sports," says Patrick Arkeveld, President and CEO of the Canadian Ski Council. "It keeps them fit, less prone to obesity, and outside and active during the winter months. Better yet, skiing and snowboarding are sports kids can do with the entire family for a lifetime."

How It Works: The Canadian Ski Council's SnowPass gives kids in grades 4 and 5 (born in 2003 or 2004) three lift tickets at each and every participating ski area all across Canada for the entire winter; providing them with an opportunity to ski or snowboard hundreds of times over the winter season, for free.  You only need to apply once for the SnowPass and the pass is valid until the end of grade 5. This means if you apply in grade 4 the pass is valid for two years.

Applying is Easy: To sign up, visit www.snowpass.ca, and you have a choice of either uploading your child's picture, entering your payment and their proof of age, or using our printed option that allows you to fill out the information, print the application to mail in to the Canadian Ski Council with a photo, proof of age or grade and payment; all for a one-time shipping and administration fee of $29.95 including taxes.  Signing up online is the quickest and easiest way to apply for your child's Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass card.

Where to Use it: The Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass is a national program and is valid at over 150 ski areas across Canada including 32 ski areas in British Columbia, 19 ski areas in Alberta, 1 ski area in Saskatchewan, 2 ski areas in Manitoba, 33 ski areas in Ontario, 57 ski areas in Quebec, 8 in Atlantic Canada and 1 in the Yukon.  With ski areas participating across Canada, families will not have to travel far to put the SnowPass to use. Kids can easily track how many lift passes they have left by visiting www.snowpass.ca.

Grade 4 and 5 SnowPass program information and applications are available online at www.snowpass.ca or www.passeportdesneiges.ca. Keep your nine and ten year olds healthy and active this March break season with the Grade 4 & 5 SnowPass.  Order your SnowPass today using our Xpresspost option and get it in time for spring break!

Rodgers & Hammerstein’s first collaboration remains, in many ways, their most innovative, having set the standards and established the rules of musical theatre still being followed today.
Set in a Western Indian territory just after the turn of the century, the high-spirited rivalry between the local farmers and cowboys provides the colorful background against which Curly, a handsome cowboy, and Laurey, a winsome farm girl, play out their love story. Although the road to true love never runs smooth, with these two headstrong romantics holding the reins, love’s journey is as bumpy as a surrey ride down a country road. That they will succeed in making a new life together we have no doubt, and that this new life will begin in a brand-new state provides the ultimate climax to the triumphant OKLAHOMA!

          From Evaluation to Inspiration

FVRL is proud to host a special event that will change the way you think about intelligence, creativity, and human potential. Join us for an evening with Scott Barry Kaufman, author of Ungifted: Intelligence Redefined.
Severe ear infections rendered three-year-old Scott Barry Kaufman nearly deaf. As a result, he needed a few extra seconds to process things in real time—which landed him in a special education classroom. Inspired by his personal experience, Kaufman, now a cognitive psychologist, has made it his mission to debunk traditional methods of measuring intelligence. Why do we have such an obsessive need to compare students? Why do we insist on labeling and categorizing everyone?
In his talks, Kaufman encourages us—and specifically educators, school psychologists, parents, and caregivers—to move towards a culture of inspiration, where we only compare people to their past and future selves. He argues for intelligent testing as opposed to intelligence testing: deep evaluation that focuses on finding out a person's strengths and weaknesses, and the characteristics that make them unique. And, he advocates for thinking about talent and potential as moving targets—they're not inherent qualities we're born with, they're based on our engagement with something that is meaningful to us. When students are inspired or activated, they come alive.
Instead of using testing to sort gifted from ungifted students, Kaufman encourages audiences to take a holistic approach to evaluation that benefits all students. It's time to focus on a practical approach to individual needs that enables students to unlock their potential and reach their goals, at school and beyond.

          About The Presenter

Scott Barry Kaufman is adjunct assistant professor of psychology at New York University and the author of Ungifted: Intelligence Redefined (2013, Basic Books).

          February 8 – 10, 10 am – 5 pm

Step away from technology and spend Family Day having good, old-fashioned fun at the fort! Starting at 10 am, put your kids to work, the old-fashioned way, with 19th century family chores. From 2-3 pm, take photos of your kids in historical outfits while they play dress up. Afterwards, from 3-4pm, learn campfire songs around the warm fire.

Special offer: purchase your family annual pass for $39.20 and receive access to a new Summertime Campfire Program! (Offer valid February 8-10, 2014, in person only).
