Community Day is the official kick-start to summer in the City of Langley, so residents are invited to come out and enjoy the parade and festivities on Saturday, June 21.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. and runs down Fraser Highway, east from 201A Street to 207 Street.
A celebration in Douglas Park will follow from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with Kids Zone activities, a barbecue fundraiser, live entertainment and community booths.
A taste of the Scottish Highlands is also coming to Langley.
To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the City’s annual Community Day celebration, residents are invited to watch and take part in Langley’s own Highland Games, which will include traditional sporting events, Highland music and children’s activities.
The games, which are being put on by Langley’s Christian Life Assembly, will take place throughout the day on Saturday at Douglas Park, where the majority of Community Day events are centred.
Sporting events will include the caber toss, which is a Scottish athletic event in which competitors throw a large tapered pole, stone putting and a community team-based tug-of-war. Kids will also be invited to participate in a traditional Wellington boot toss.
