DESCRIPTION
This event is to raise awareness about Creekside Forest. a publicly owned urban forest that has been slated to be developed as a sixty-one house subdivision.
This Family Friendly event will run from 10am until 3pm at the Aldergrove Athletic Park under the covered picnic area.
There will be:
- Face Painting, craft and games stations for kids to enjoy
- An information station informing residents of Langley Township about the proposed development into our local forest. Residents will be able to sign a petition opposing the development.
-Harriet the owl will make an appearance for about an hour in the morning. Visitors can have their picture taken with the owl for $5. The money will be donated to Watchers of Langley
Forests.(WOLF)
- Hotdogs and beverages will be served at lunch time for free or by donation
Free Guided Tours of the Forest will be given from the same time by WOLF. The tours start at Creekside Park (28th Ave and 274th St) just by the bridge that crosses Bertrand Creek.

Backyard Composting   
Thursday, May 22; 7:00-8:00pm

Make black gold in your backyard! In a landfill, it can take up to 20 years for a banana peel to decompose. In a backyard composter, it can take as little as a few weeks. In this workshop, learn what type of composting is a good fit for your needs, and how to quickly turn yard trimmings, fruit and vegetable scraps into rich organic fertilizer. This workshop is great for beginners as well as experienced compost users who want to troubleshoot their compost systems. RSVP at least one week in advance.  
Training Fruit Trees to Produce More
Monday, May 26; 7:00-9:00pm
This workshop will discuss cover how fruit trees grow and how to direct new growth to produce bigger crops in future years. Discussion will include training of espalier and similar tree forms, fruit thinning of apples and pears, and the use of mesh bags as non-chemical barriers to prevent Codling Moth and Apple Maggot infestations of the fruit. RSVP at least one week in advance.  
How to Make Living Willow Fences and Structures

This workshop will cover the harvest and planting of willow cuttings to produce a variety of living structures. Several living fence designs and weaving techniques will be demonstrated. RSVP at least one week in advance.

Having trouble getting your child to eat their vegetables? Get them involved! Once they experience growing their own they will love eating lettuce, carrots and more. Summer Pruning of Apple and Pear Trees
Monday, July 14; 7:00-9:00pm
This workshop will cover the use of summer pruning to control growth and produce bigger crops on your apple and pear trees. Gardeners with young or large old trees with excessive shoot growth will learn how to reduce vegetative shoot growth and develop more fruit buds. Also learn how to use summer pruning to train these fruit trees into various shapes. RSVP at least one week in advance.  
All-Season Vegetable Gardening              
Saturday, July 19; 10:00am-11:30am
Harvest fresh vegetables from your garden year-round. Learn what vegetables to plant in the summer and fall to make them ready for harvest in the winter and spring. Plus find out how to extend the growing season for many fall crops. RSVP at least one week in advance.

May 15, 2014 - The Aldor Acres Kids #Gardening Program #Langley #Aldergrove


Do you have active kids that are interested in how their food is grown? The Aldor Acres Kids Gardening Program is a fun, hand’s on learning experience that gets kids “down & dirty”! They will learn the full cycle of plant life – having direct involvement in planting, maintaining, & harvesting all vegetables in the garden. Natural produce growing practices will be taught along with knowledge about sustainable, local eating. Kids will learn responsibility by taking ownership of their plants and their own self sufficiency. All throughout the program, the kid’s will harvest and take home all of their veggies from the garden as they ripen. Sit back & relax parents, “let the kids grow dinner”! May 19, 2014 - The May Day Parade #Fort #Langley


The May Day Parade is on Victoria Day each year in Fort Langley. In 2014, the 92nd annual parade will be on Monday, May 19th. The parade will form up on Church Street and will commence at 11:00 to go west on Mavis to Glover Road. Once on Glover the floats will go south to 88th Avenue. At 88th Avenue, the parade will turn west again to Trattle St. It will then turn north and travel along Trattle to St. Andrews. At St. Andrews they will turn east and head into Fort Langley Community Park. Once in the park, the May Queens and the Royal Party will be piped in. There will then be May Pole Dancing followed by live entertainment through until 4:00. The Lions famous BBQ Chicken will be available at the park. There will be rides for the children, Mini Golf for Everyone, vendors, food and much more. Mark your calendar for May 19th and come out and join us for a great family day!

BC #Supermoto is hosting its 8th annual season opener this coming Saturday (May 17th). The day will be dedicated to getting new members signed up and up to speed – Lots of practice time will be available! We will be helping new members understand the rules of racing, bike safety and tech tips. This will get you up to speed and ready to participate in the fun for the balance of the season! Don’t miss it, the action starts @ 8:00AM and goes until 5:00PM

Entree Fees:
• $90.00 PNWMA Insurance (Sign up starts @ 8:00am)
• $40.00 Practice Fee
• Racing Fees ($25.00 of practice fee will go towards your first race):
o 1st class: $60.00
o 2nd class: $40.00
o 3rd class: $20.00
o 4th+ class: $10.00

Gear Requirements:
• An off-road or dual-sport motorcycle in good working condition:
o All bolts tightened
o Chain adjusted
o Sportsman or dual-sport tires (dirt tires ok but not recommended)
o All lights and signals covered or taped
o License plate removed
o Catch can – a container to collect all fluids from overflow or breather tubes (carburetor, radiator, crankcase)
We will be helping people with these, bring a small pop can and some zap straps!
o No leaks or sweats from any part of the bike that could cause for fluid to fall on the track or pit area

Motorcycle safety gear:
•Helmet
•Goggles or eye protection
•Boots that cover above the ankle
•Gloves
•A leather race suit will offer the best protection but we will allow textile pants and or MX gear in good condition

May 10, 2014 - #Kwantlen Polytechnic University will host our second annual Science Rendezvous at the #Langley campus.

On May 10, Kwantlen Polytechnic University will host our second annual Science Rendezvous at the Langley campus. KPU Langley will be transformed into a spectacular science experience where the public will get a chance to participate in hands-on experiments, walk through interactive science labs and state-of-the-art greenhouses and see a demonstration of the high-tech patient simulators in the nursing labs. Free to the public!

Science Rendezvous is a public platform to promote science awareness and increase science literacy in Canada. The event is an annual day-long festival spanning multiple simultaneous sites across the country, designed to bring science face-to-face with the public and encourages more youth to consider science and engineering-related careers and study paths.
During our inaugural event last year, over 550 visitors came into KPU to check out the experiments, displays and labs. Some of the visitors stayed for the entire three-hour event, mostly families with small kids.

Just a reminder that the 2014 Langley RCMP Junior Cadet Camp applications
are now ready for pick up.
Applications can be picked up at any of the Langley Community Police
offices or the Langley RCMP main detachment.
Applications will be accepted until May 31.

The Langley RCMP presents our annual RCMP Junior Cadet Camp

We will be accepting applications for the Langley RCMP Jr Cadet Camp from May 1st until May 31st The Jr Cadet Camp is open to 10-12 year olds who have not attended camp previously.

Cadet Camp is a mini police boot camp that runs three consecutive days July 8th, 9th and 10th during which the children who are accepted will enjoy a variety of policing activities that will include the following:

Ø Drill (marching in formation)
Ø PDS – K9 Unit
Ø EDU – Explosive Device Unit
Ø PARE – Police Athletic Requirement Exam (fun version for kids)
Ø IDENT – Forensic Identification Services
Ø Self Defense
Ø RCMP Horse – History of the RCMP, explanation of the horse and it’s       duties past and present
Ø ERT – Emergency Response Team
Ø Air 1 – RCMP Helicopter flies in for a landing and talk/explanation of aircraft


All of the above mentioned sections are operational and performed by on duty members. They may get called out to duty therefore, we do not tell the children ahead of time who and what they will be seeing so they will not be disappointed.
The 2014 Cadet Camp will be held at:

This is a fabulous opportunity for all off the children to see Police Officers in a positive light while having fun. There is no charge for the children to attend the Jr Cadet Camp.
